Ecclesiastes seems to stick out in the Bible as a book that doesn’t fit with the others. God’s wondrous works, precious promises and saving actions are on display throughout Scripture, but when on comes to this book it is as though God has left the scene. And indeed, we find, that is the heart of what Ecclesiastes is all about. In a world “under the sun” apart from God, things are rather depressing. There are no feel good verses to be found here. Only the stone cold reality of the utter meaninglessness of existence and futile toiling of the world broken by sin.
